Join Us in Shaping the Future of Planetary Health!

The WONCA Africa Region and the Botswana Association of Family Physicians are delighted to invite you to submit abstracts for the 9th WONCA Africa Regional Conference 2026, to be held in Gaborone, Botswana. This landmark gathering will bring together family doctors/family physicians, primary health care practitioners, researchers, educators, policymakers, and partners for deliberation on advancing primary care and planetary health from an African perspective.

We welcome abstracts aligned with the conference theme and sub-themes, including but not limited to:

  • Planetary health and climate change: implications for primary care and community health
  • Innovations in family medicine and primary health care
  • Medical education and capacity building: training healthcare workers in planetary health, curriculum development for sustainable care, youth and future leaders in primary healthcare…
  • Digital health, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and technology in primary care
  • Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and health systems strengthening
  • Community-oriented primary care
  • Mental health, NCDs, and chronic care in Africa
  • Women’s, children’s, and adolescent health
  • Research methods and evidence for primary care in Africa

Submissions are invited for:

  • Oral Presentations
  • Poster Presentations
  • Workshops
  • Symposia / Panel Discussions
  • Abstracts should be no more than 300 words (excluding title and authors).
  • Structure: Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion (for scientific abstracts) or Background, Discussion, Lessons learned (for practice/education abstracts).
  • Abstracts must be submitted in English.
  • Each author may submit up to 3 abstracts.
  • Indicate the category of your abstract (Oral vs Poster). Final decision for inclusion as oral or poster presentation will be made by the scientific committee.
